HOPE (Harnessing Our Power to End Political Violence)

We are excited to announce the opening of applications for a HOPE training of trainers (TOT), scheduled for March 4, 11, 18 from 7-9:30pm ET/4-6:30pm PT.  In this TOT, participants will develop understanding of essential elements of backfire strategy in preventing authoritarian consolidation, practice training and coaching components of HOPE training and contextualizing for specific audiences and campaigns, build connection with others training and organizing backfire, and gain access to HOPE training resources and support for your training.

This TOT is for experienced trainers and facilitators who are interested in incorporating approaches to make political violence and repression backfire into their training repertoire. As we know, building capacity for strategic nonviolent action and maintaining nonviolent discipline is a key principle of effective civil resistance to authoritarianism, and there are many ways that you and others are building that capacity - this TOT is will be experiential and interactive to support you to integrate the backfire framework into whatever training you're doing.

Accepted TOT participants who commit to doing at least one HOPE training for their community will receive a $1000 stipend upon completion. This stipend is meant to cover your time to contextualize the HOPE curriculum for your training audience (including incorporating HOPE elements into existing trainings), and it can also be used to secure space, childcare, and training materials for in-person trainings.
